Each year we admit more than 500 injured or displaced wild birds in need of care--from ruby-throated hummingbirds to bald eagles and nearly everything in between.
Our volunteer veterinarians give each of our avian patients immediate care; every bird that comes through our door receives a comprehensive physical examination and necessary treatment. Our veterinarians and medical team perform orthopedic and soft-tissue surgeries, administer medications, and more. Once our patients are stabilized, our rehabilitation team nurses them back to health by providing daily care, proper nutrition, and any necessary physiotherapy to encourage healing and a return to function. Our veterinarians and rehabilitators are active in many professional organizations, including the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Raptor Research Foundation, and The Wildlife Society.
