Boris is a female turkey vulture (Cathartes aura). She came to us in 2016 from the Buckhannon area of West Virginia when she was about one-year old. She was illegally shot and suffered a wing fracture; unfortunately, the fracture had already healed by the time she got to the ACCA, and she can't extend her left wing adequately for release.
The only reliable way to determine if a turkey vulture is male or female is with a DNA test. The finder had named this vulture "Boris" before we tested her DNA and learned she was female. By that time, the name had stuck!
